According to information presented in Parliament on Friday, IT entities registered with the state-managed Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have collectively exported software amounting to Rs 11.59 lakh crore during the fiscal year 2021-22. Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, disclosed in a written response to a query from Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao that STPI-registered IT units accounted for exports valued at Rs 6,28,860.29 crore, while SEZs contributed Rs 5,30,350 crore during the same period.
Chandrasekhar highlighted the government’s efforts to stimulate comprehensive growth across various high-potential service sectors, specifically emphasizing Information Technology (IT) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES). He mentioned the approval of the ‘Action Plan for Champion Sectors in Services,’ designed to provide targeted support to 12 identified sectors. These sectors encompass IT, ITES, tourism and hospitality services, medical value travel, transport and logistics services, and communication services, among others.
In addition, Chandrasekhar noted that STPI-registered units in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, made a significant contribution of Rs 775.82 crore to IT and ITES exports for the fiscal year 2021-22.
